Waitangirua Medical Centre - Opening!

After driving past the WMC for nearly a year in 2023, I was keen to understand why it wasn’t operational - and how come our health services were being delivered to the community out of adjacent portables. Turns out a previous renovation hadn’t gone to plan. Ok, what can we do to help rectify the situation?

Originally built in 1975, the WMC had a multitude of leaks, and what hadn’t been removed during controlled demo, had subsequently been taken or destroyed over the ensuing 5-year period by vandals. She was in bad shape.

The bones of the building however, were still there - just. We set about bringing in some experienced consultants and contractors to get a better idea of whether we could ‘resuscitate’ this facility. 18 months on, we had designed, consented, procured, secured funding and delivered a completely refurbished building for our Ora Toa health service to operate from.

A huge mihi to all involved!
